What are Holiday Sleigh Rides on the Farm?

A horse drawn sleigh ride at the American West Heritage Center is the perfect  activity to celebrate the holiday season.  Experience the peace and enjoyment of a festive ride around the historic farm site delighting in the decorations and animals flanked by the breathtaking Wellsville Mountain scenery.

Your ride will include a stop at our delicious hot cocoa bar and access to a sledding hill (included with your ticket)*. When you are sufficiently warmed by cocoa, fun, and laughter, hop back on the sleigh for a round trip return to the Welcome Center. Our General Mercantile and Gift Shop will help make your holiday shopping easy and meaningful — be sure to stop in and take a peek.

*Sledding is dependent on weather and guests will need to bring their own sleds. Sleighs may be on runners or wheels depending on weather.

If we choose to go sledding, are sleds provided?  Can we take our own sleds on the sleigh ride?

Sleds are not provided, guests must bring their own.  Sleds must be “parked” and labeled by family name in the “sled corral” while guests are elsewhere.  Guests will have to return to the “corral” to pick up their sled, and then make their way to the sledding hill.

Guests can also choose to keep their sleds in their vehicles and retrieve them when they are ready to sled.  Please keep in mind that sledding will only be available as weather conditions permit.

What kind of sled hill do you have?

The sled hill has a mild elongated slope.  You will be required to walk back up a trail with your sled after you have taken a ride down the hill.   Sledding is only available if we have snow.

Can our family go sledding on the sled hill without buying a ticket to Sleigh Rides?

The sled hill is available to guests wishing to ONLY go sledding, at a cost of only $3/person. Sleds are not provided, guests must bring their own. Please check in at the Welcome Center.  Gates close at 5:00 pm.  Sledding is only available if we have snow.
