What are Holiday Sleigh Rides on the Farm?
A horse drawn sleigh ride at the American West Heritage Center is the perfect activity to celebrate the holiday season. Experience the peace and enjoyment of a festive ride around the historic farm site delighting in the decorations and animals flanked by the breathtaking Wellsville Mountain scenery.
Your ride will include a stop at our delicious hot cocoa bar and access to a sledding hill (included with your ticket)*. When you are sufficiently warmed by cocoa, fun, and laughter, hop back on the sleigh for a round trip return to the Welcome Center. Our gift shop will help make your holiday shopping easy and meaningful — be sure to stop in and take a peek.
All activities will be COVID compliant (masks required) and wonderful memory makers for your entire family. Bring your cameras to capture this unique holiday family opportunity, bound to bring smiles to your faces and joy to your hearts.
*Sledding is dependent on weather and guests will need to bring their own sleds. Sleighs may be on runners or wheels depending on weather. Masks required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will there be sleigh rides if there is no snow?
Yes! There will be sleigh rides regardless of the weather.
What is the cost of admission for children?
Children under the age of 3 are FREE. Admission for children, ages 3 to 103, is $7.
How long is the sleigh ride?
The sleigh ride around the farm and to the Hot Cocoa Bar is about 10-15 minutes. You and your family can choose how long to stay as you visit the different displays and photo opportunities while drinking your hot chocolate. The return wagon ride is about 5 minutes.
How many can fit on one sleigh?
Each sleigh can accommodate up to 20 individuals from the same household. Separate households will be socially distanced from each other on the wagon which will require spacing from front to back.
Can we ride as a group?
Households can ride together in a single group. Non-households will not be allowed to sit together in groups. Separate households are asked to maintain social distancing on the wagons.
Are masks required?
Yes, bring your masks. Masks are required while riding the wagons, while indoors, when in lines, and when outdoor social distancing isn’t possible. Please be patient with this requirement. We will insist that masks be worn as explained.
If you feel ill, we ask that you do not come to the event.
Please maintain at least 6 feet social distancing standard between families at all times while on AWHC property.
Will there be concessions?
In addition to the complimentary hot cocoa, concessions will be available for purchase. Concession item will include: Hot Cocoa, Hot pretzels, Churros, soda and our famous Kettle Corn
Is physical distancing possible?
Yes, the event is outdoors for the most part and the setting will allow for sufficient social distancing. Please exercise caution, wear masks.
If we choose to go sledding, are sleds provided? Can we take our own sleds on the sleigh ride?
Sleds are not provided, guests must bring their own. Sleds must be “parked” and labeled by family name in the “sled corral” while guests are elsewhere. Guests will have to return to the “corral” to pick up their sled, and then make their way to the sledding hill.
Guests can also choose to keep their sleds in their vehicles and retrieve them when they are ready to sled. Please keep in mind that sledding will only be available as weather and conditions permit.
What kind of sled hill do you have?
The sled hill has a mild elongated slope. You will be required to walk back up a trail with your sled after you have taken a ride down the hill. Sledding is only available based on whether or not we have snow.
